Repair or replace? Start with the system.

If you have been told you need new equipment, you can ask Rowan’s about a second look. Equipment condition, the issue at hand and your plans for the home all belong in the repair-or-replacement conversation.

A useful place to start.

Have the system type and thermostat reading handy. You do not need to know the technical cause before contacting us.

When to call about cooling.

  • The system runs but the house stays warm.
  • Air from the vents feels warmer than expected.
  • The outdoor unit is not starting.
  • Cooling is uneven between rooms or floors.
  • You notice ice, unusual noise or water near equipment.

Follow the symptoms, not a guess.

An air conditioner that runs without cooling can have several causes. Airflow, controls and the relationship between indoor and outdoor equipment all affect performance. Tell Rowan’s whether the fan is running, whether every room is affected and when the problem began. If the change followed recent work or a thermostat adjustment, include that detail. A symptom description is more useful than assuming the system only needs refrigerant.

Central air is a connected system.

The outdoor condenser is only one part of central air conditioning. Indoor equipment, ducts, return paths and the thermostat work together to deliver cooling. An upstairs room that stays warm can present a different problem from an entire house that is not cooling. For a replacement, include any recurring comfort issues so equipment selection and distribution can be considered together.

Repair or replace with a clear reason.

Compare the diagnosed fault, likely repair scope, past breakdowns and the overall condition of the system. If another contractor has recommended replacement, bring the written findings or proposal to your call with Rowan’s. Explain whether your goal is to restore the existing system, improve uneven cooling or plan a broader upgrade. New equipment should be considered in relation to the home, rather than as an isolated outdoor-unit purchase.

Your cooling questions.

Why is the AC running without cooling the house?

Airflow restrictions, control problems and equipment faults can produce similar symptoms. A description of what the indoor fan and outdoor unit are doing helps focus the assessment; it does not replace diagnosis.

Should I keep running an air conditioner with visible ice?

Do not keep trying to force cooling from an iced system. Stop cooling operation and contact a professional for guidance. Do not chip ice off coils or open equipment panels.

Can I ask Rowan’s for a second opinion?

Yes. Share the diagnosis or replacement recommendation you received, the symptoms and any repair history. Rowan’s can discuss the next step for your existing equipment.

Can maintenance and a repair be the same thing?

They serve different purposes. Maintenance addresses routine equipment care; a repair addresses a fault. Describe an active cooling problem when requesting service so it is treated as a service issue.
